In May 2024, Christopher agreed with four friends to meet on a Saturday morning and run through Phnom Penh. There was no club, no name on a shirt, no plan beyond turning up again the following week.

What changed things was who arrived next. People who had not exercised in years. People who had spent their lives being told what their body was. They came once to see whether they would be judged — and they came back. Christopher stopped building a running group and started building the thing those people actually needed: a place where nobody is allowed to feel small.

That is where the name came from. Neak is the Khmer word for the naga, the guardian carved into temple staircases across Cambodia. Not a symbol of speed — a protector at the entrance. The job is to protect people through the first weeks, when they are slow and unsure and certain everyone can tell.

Five runners became a hundred every Saturday, then 700 on a start line for children's futures, then FUEL10, then a night race with 500 places on the grid. Christopher still sets the standard every Saturday: free, any pace, nobody left behind.
